Job Purpose Provide specialist knowledge to support colleagues in the effective management of patients with diabetes within an in-patient and outpatient setting. Provide ongoing professional and clinical leadership to deliver evidence based care as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.

Nurses with basic or advanced training in professional foot care provide thorough foot assessments and provide toenail, callus, corn and fungal nail care. Those with diabetes should be treated by a nurse with advanced foot care training. Care is provided in a clinic setting.

The CNS Diabetes Integrated Care is a key team member in the provision of integrated patient care. They provide a primary care-based specialist diabetes nursing service to individual patients referred to them by GPs and Practice Nurses (PNs).

If you have completed an advanced nurse or clinical practitioner pathway, you will have many valuable transferrable skills. To become a diabetes specialist, on-the-job training and short accredited courses can help you make the transition.
